Character NAME: Mary Magdalene
Canon & MEDIUM: Chrono Crusade | Manga/Comic book
Canon PULL-POINT: After her and Chrono fall from Eden.
Character AGE: Late teens, early twenties.
Character ABILITIES: To put it simply, Mary is clairvoyant. She can see the future, the present, the past, from absolutely anywhere and about anyone or any event. From battlefields and wars long gone to an upcoming wedding or family reunion, she can see it. More so, she can feel it. There’s a small level of empathy when she sees her visions. She sees into a past where someone is shot and she can feel the bullet as though she were the one being shot. She also holds the ability to scan large areas (we’re talking 100sq. miles) and pinpoint objects the size of a person’s head. Or literally a demon’s head.
As a child she had absolutely no control over these abilities, but with time and training from the Order she learned how to not only control what she saw but use her visions to her advantage (or the Order’s advantage). Her time with the Order was spent controlling her gift and then spending hours a day writing out prophecies from her visions. However, even with control she still has spontaneous visions that can be triggered by small things or events occurring around her. She knows how to handle this when these moments happen, but that doesn’t stop them from occurring nonetheless. If she overworks herself and her powers, however, she becomes easily exhausted often times fainting.

Character HISTORY: Mary’s age, childhood, family, even her birth name are a mystery to her. As a child her clairvoyant abilities had no control. She would be fine one moment and in hysterics the next after having seen a vision she had no way of stopping. Her visions often times left her confused. She would see families, funerals, weddings, a brother returning home from war, a mother giving birth. She would hear names and see events and in the end, she had no way of discerning reality from the reality of her visions. She lost herself and it’s likely her family had no way to care for her because of it. Eventually the Magdalene Order found her and took her in assuming they could help her and likely use her gifts. They helped teach her how to control her visions, gave her a place to live, and even her name. In exchange, she told them her prophecies. But make no mistake, it was much like a gilded cage to live there.

Out of all of her visions, however, only one she knew as her own. For a long time it was the only thing she could identify herself with. Unfortunately, this vision was of her death. In it she saw her murderer, Chrono, but the odd thing was that he was crying and she had no idea why. So since a young age, even before the Order found her, she had always wanted to meet Chrono. She needed to know why he was crying, she wanted to know who he was. It’s a thought that was consistently in the back of her mind. And one day she got her wish.

Chrono came to the Order one night and kidnapped Mary. Or the Order saw it as a kidnapping, Mary saw it as an escape and eagerly assisted Chrono’s attempt to take her (without injuring any members of the Order in the process). She soon found out the reason for her kidnapping was to find the location of Pandemonium’s head (the mother of all demons – Chrono and the company Mary was with at this time were all demons). Their goal was to rid Pandemonium’s hold over them, as she controls them. Think of it as a bee hive with all the demons doing the queen bees bidding. After the head was found, the group chose not to kill Mary but kept her with them. They all got along and Mary was found to be ridiculously too nice and too helpful. She cooked, cleaned, did laundry and had the time to help Shader (Science!Demon) with absurd high tech data extraction against Pandemonium (who was more dormant than dead).

When the data they needed was just about pieced together, everything went terribly wrong. Pandemonium had recovered enough and decided to lash out. With her abilities, the demons were paralyzed but Mary wasn’t. She managed to cause a distraction and Chrono and Aion (Mastermind!Demon) were able to destroy Pandemonium. Sort of. In the end, damage was taken by the demons, but Pandemonium had possessed Mary and was now simply dormant in her mind.

For about a week, Mary was unconscious but when she awoke she wandered Eden’s halls in a sleep-walking state until she bumped into Aion. Aion knew immediately it wasn’t entirely Mary, but Pandemonium. Whatever might have been Mary’s end was stopped when Chrono found the two. But the die was cast.

Not long after, Aion ordered Chrono to kill Mary. He refused. Aion and Chrono fought resulting in Chrono’s horns (energy/life source antenna things all demons have that also causes them to be controlled by Pandemonium) being broken off and he and Mary falling from Eden. Chrono was dying, because without his horns he couldn't absorb the astral energy he required to recover. But Pandemonium decided to help. Sort of. Pandemonium told Mary of a way to save Chrono that would allow him to use her astral energy/life source instead. It would kill her, but Chrono didn’t need to know that. They made a contract.

Character PERSONALITY: Being clairvoyant sucks. That is all you need to know.

Mary considers herself to be an empty shell, a vessel filled with everyone else’s memories, hopes, dreams, accomplishments, sorrows, and fears that there is simply no room left for her. She is alive for everyone else and having the only vision of yourself be your own death has had a huge impact on her. Her whole life she has been awaiting that time, to see her vision about herself come to pass. She’s been waiting to die.

It isn’t all doom and gloom, though. Mary is kind, caring, confident, and yes, selfless, but a practical individual who despite all she knows and all she’s seen is still rather optimistic about the world. She sees beauty where others wouldn’t think twice about and at times expresses wisdom WELL beyond her years. She doesn’t want to see anyone hurt and greatly values life itself, just not necessarily her own. When it comes to any matter associated with her death or her dying, her polite and kind demeanor turns serious and she faces the matter head on with a blunt and factual nature. But always, she remains humble, modest, and consistently puts herself dead last.

Her visions have made her somewhat fearless. She doesn’t scare easily and can hold her ground in the worst of situations with a calm attitude. Her friendship with the demons is somewhat evidence of that. She treats them no differently than anyone else, and while most would be afraid she stands up to them, jokes with them, helps them. Even though they could be rid of her anytime they wanted to. Another example is the battle with Pandemonium where she steps in. There’s evidence she didn’t know of the outcome of her interference but acted regardless. Her visions may influence her courage, but they aren’t the sole cause.

Mary’s kindness and friendship holds stubbornness, however. Besides putting herself last almost always, she’ll INSIST on being helpful and she can be very aggressive about it. She has no trouble with teasing (specifically teasing Chrono). And although she usually remains polite, every so often you’ll see a bit of sass you wouldn’t expect from someone who spent her known life in a religious Order and being considered a saint.

She is also a fast learner and reads people ridiculously well. This may be her visions at work or she simply has seen such an expansive number of similar situations that she knows how to best handle and approach the matters pushed in front of her. It makes her adaptable and understanding.

For all the good her visions can do, however, she does keep her perspective of her situation mostly to herself. Throughout her life she has made the best of a horrendous situation because she believes there is nothing she can do. She doesn’t complain or second guess or dwell that life could be different. She has been stuck with a fate she saw far too young and has become complacent to accept her visions as end all truths. This causes her to seem obedient, and for most situations this is true. But every so often she acts out, proving she isn’t exactly always one to sit back and watch and not interfere. And it’s only just before her canon point or after she falls from Eden with Chrono that she sees things may not absolutely have to always go as planned. She was supposed to die on Eden, neither of them were supposed to fall, or so she had been certain. Her death was supposed to happen then. But it didn’t. It’s a revelation that’s going to take her time to wrap her head around, and after being stuck watching everyone else’s lives she might just get to live hers (in Exsilium anyways, canonically she dies within a short amount of time after her canon point. Bummer).

Chosen WEAPON:
Mary’s weapon will be her eyes and strengthening her visions in a different way. Over time the evolution of her weapon will allow her to project her visions onto other people so that they are seeing them as well and dealing with the same levels of empathy as she would. The visions that others will be seeing will be short and unclear at first, but as time goes on and her weapon evolves, they will be able to be projected longer and more vividly until they are on par with what she is capable of seeing herself.
She will need to physically see the individual she’s projecting her visions onto, and I will definitely be asking players ahead of time should their character be involved at all. What is seen can have no meaning at all and is more for the sake of distraction or even just by accident as she will likely need to learn how to control it at first. This isn’t exactly something she’d want to wish onto anyone else so it’s likely she won’t be using such a skill in anything but a dire situation. The point is really for any battles or combat so she isn’t a damsel in distress. While the vision is projected she will be seeing and feeling the usual effects as well, only difference between her and the one she is projecting it upon is that she is MUCH more accustomed to handling it.

Character INVENTORY:
Her clothes.

She is so well prepared, I know.

First PERSON: [The tablet is turned on with little fuss, some static can be heard alongside rustling but soon a clear video image can be seen. A blond woman’s face looks into the tablet screen with an expression of panicked worry.] Please work
I’m sorry, but if anyone can see this, I’m looking for someone. His name is Chrono. I’m not certain if he’s here, he was with me before and… [She swallows hard on words she chooses not to say.] He was badly hurt. Please, I need to know if he’s all right.

Third PERSON: Test Drive Meme Link: http://dramaticshitinlatin.dreamwidth.org/32302.html?thread=14915118#cmt14915118
Note: For the test drive I played her from a post-death canon point and all threads were multi-versed. The differences between her pre-death and post-death canon points are very subtle. For example, the largest change may be her asking Chrono how she died in their thread rather than how long ago.
